Primary News for December
Scran2004 - CHRISTMAS LAUNCH!
The planned date for the launch of the new Scran service Scran2004 is the 24th of December. Right now, you can familiarise yourself with the new site before we switch over. All your old favourites are there in a fresh new interface which has been described by testers as "clear", "fresh" and "light". To access the new site, just click on "Try out new site" on the current homepage and login as normal. Be sure to check out the Primary School Page, which has direct links to Pathfinder Packs of special interest to Primary teachers, as well as information about Training and CPD opportunities through Scran. If you have any comments or suggestions about the Schools section of the new Scran service, don't hesitate to email our Schools Education Officer, Lesley Stokes, on lesley.stokes@scran.ac.uk
HAVE YOU LOOKED AT...?
MY STUFF
On the new Scran site, you can register for "My Stuff", where you can save lots of Scran resources from your own searches. You can still create Albums as always, but you can now also save thumbnails and searches as well as PDFs that you have created using the new Create tool. A great way to keep all of your Scran "stuff" organised! Registering for "My Stuff" is easy: simply click on "My Stuff" on the menu on the left hand side, then click on the box to open "My Stuff" in a new window. Then in the boxes on the right type in a user name and password - you make these up for yourself - and your email address. You can then use these login details to access your "Stuff" anytime you visit the Scran site. If you need any help at all using "My Stuff" click on "Help" on the menu on the left hand side. There is a section there with specific help in using "My Stuff".
TOPIC TIP - FOR CHRISTMAS
Scran has a multitude of resources that can be used to produce interesting and unique teaching materials for the Christmas period.
* Explore the Pathfinder Packs about the festive period. In the Pathfinder Pack index, click on "Events" then "Festivals" to see the "Christmas" Pathfinder Pack. There are also Pathfinder Packs on "Icicles, Frost and Snow" and "In the Snow" to be found in the "Weather" section in the "Nature" index.
* Try your own searches using festive keywords. Try "snow", "reindeer", "holly", "festive", "mistletoe" etc.
* Use the new "Create" tool on the new Scran site to create your own winter and Christmas resources. Simply click on the "Create" button under your chosen image, choose your template then follow the simple instructions. There are templates for posters and worksheets as well as greetings cards and calendars - particularly useful at this time of year! Why not set your pupils the task of searching for an image then creating their own Christmas card or calendar?
