RCAHMS Launch New Online Map
A superb new resource that enables online history buffs to zoom in on archaeological sites and historic buildings in any part of Scotland was launched in June 2002 by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland, a founder partner of Scran.
CANMAP, as it is named, complements the online CANMORE resource, which provides access to the catalogue of the National Monuments Record at RCAHMS detailing the resources held in their photographic collections.
RCAHMS hopes to further expand this online resource by making the images in their extensive library available on CANMORE, providing a holistic historic resource.
In the meantime, if you want to view some of the NMR’s images, and you can’t get along to their library in central Edinburgh, why not get a taste of the collection on Scran.
