John Brown's Shipyard | photographs from the '50s and the '60s
26th August, 2011
New photographs on Scran document the works at John Brown's Engineering Ltd dating from the 1950s and the 1960s. They show some of the engineers who worked at the shipyard, views of the machine shop, of the shipyard and the Titan Crane and some of the ships which were built and repaired there.
These evocative photgraphs were taken by Robert G Taylor (1925-2009), who started as an apprentice Marine Engineer in John Brown's in 1939 aged 14 and left in 1965 to join the civil service. They were kindly contributed to Scran by his son, Rab Taylor.
