A new Scran project for community learners

26th February, 2004

Scran is planning an exciting new project, and we want to hear what you think about it.

The project will produce a series of innovative learning resources. These will relate to Scotland’s cultural heritage, and reflect the ideals and experience of the Scottish people. The online resources will be designed for lifelong learners of all ages and abilities, based in the community. They will stimulate users to identify, learn about and connect with our unique cultural heritage.

What makes this project really different, however, is how we intend to select the images and information at the heart of the new resources.

For one, we’ll ask members of the public to choose relevant objects from Scotland’s museums and galleries: which items in your local collections are most significant to you and your community?
For another, we’ll invite people to submit their own material: do you, your friends or family have hidden treasures in your attic, which the wider community would be interested in?

So, you tell us which heritage objects paint a true picture of life in your community – we’ll design the learning resources around them.

And now over to you. What do you think of our project? Do you have any ideas you’d like to contribute at this planning stage? For instance:

  • A theme for the project – what will capture the imagination of the nation?
  • Organisations we could involve – who’s in touch with Scotland’s cultural heritage and/or community-based learning?
  • Ways of reaching community-based learners – how can we engage learners, and ensure that the new learning resources meet their needs?

Please help us to plan by filling in a very short questionnaire.

We look forward to hearing from you!
