Stunning New Material on Scran

5th November, 2012

We have two excellent new contributions on Scran to share with you this month.

Poppyscotland

Poppyscotland are probably best known for running the iconic Scottish Poppy Appeal. Established in 1921 as The Earl Haig Fund, the charity adopted their current name and logo in 2006 to reflect their revised activities and services. They support ex-Servicemen and women and their families, working all year round to help veterans and their families receive care and support. A very timely collection of new material on Scran from the charity provides a mix of comtemporary and historic records documenting poppy production at the Lady Haig Poppy Factory in Edinburgh.

Wilhelmina Barns-Graham

Scottish artist Wilhelmina Barns-Graham CBE was well-known for both her representational and abstract works. The Barns-Graham Charitable Trust, established after her death in 2004, has recently finished renovating Balmungo, Barns-Graham's house near St Andrew's in Fife, enabling public access to her life and work and an insight into a rejuvenated Victorian family home. Balmungo will be the hub for the Trust’s activities and will also host the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Archive, comprising her private papers and photograph archive. New material on Scran includes both pictures of Barnes-Graham's artworks and photographs of the artist herself. It perfectly complements the forthcoming exhibition at Edinburgh's City Arts Centre and will be invaluable for teachers of art and design.
