Fisherman's Jersey Archive Coming to Scran soon

6th December, 2012

Scran is delighted to announce that we will soon be hosting the digital resources of the National Gansey Archive, curated and collated by the Moray Firth Partnership.

What are ganseys, you may be asking?  Ganseys are patterned woollen fishing jerseys from Northern Scotland, and they have a fascinating history, with each jersey telling a story. Depending on the origin of each jersey, it may have a different pattern, different features, different wool type and different symbolism, and as such each is a fascinating anthropological, cultural and artistic artefact. The Scottish Fisheries Museum at Anstruther will be among the institutions providing details of their important collections.  Look out for these additions to Scran in early 2013.  For more information please contact Kathryn Logan at the Moray Firth Partnership
