Coal Stories

5th November, 2013

Scran is proud to launch Coal Stories, a showcase of oral histories about coal mining. Coal Stories brings together oral history collections from organisations across Scotland.

Coal Stories is an initiative developed by the Scottish Coal Collections Group, a network of representatives from over 30 organisations with an interest in the heritage of coal mining in Scotland. Contributing partners - so far - include the National Mining Museum Scotland, East Lothian Museums and the Scottish Life Archive at National Museums Scotland. This oral history showcase, along with complementary images, will be a valuable educational resource, offering a way in to these hidden histories for teachers, students and researchers interested in this important aspect of Scotland’s industrial past. Each audio clip comes with a full transcript and signposts the user to where the original full interviews are archived.

Coal Stories remains open for more submissions. If you or your organisation are interested in getting involved, please get in touch with Helen Foster at Scran
