The Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2014
The 20th Commonwealth Games gets underway on 23 July 2014. This year's host city is Glasgow.
The Commonwealth Games - which started as the 'British Empire Games' in 1930 - takes place every four years and countries wishing to host them put in a bid to the Commonwealth Games Federation years in advance. This year marks the 20th Games and the host city is Glasgow. Participating teams all come from the Commonwealth of Nations. The Games gets underway on 23 July, with most events taking place at venues within the city of Glasgow. The exceptions are diving, which will take place at Edinburgh's Royal Commonwealth Pool, and shooting which will take place at Carnoustie.
