Prof Andy MacMillan

21st August, 2014

The renowned architect Prof Andy MacMillan has died suddenly aged 85. Prof MacMillan was for many years a senior designer at the renowned architectural firm Gillespie, Kidd & Coia. Among his designs is St Peter's College seminary in Cardross, a building considered by some to be a modernist masterpiece.

He was Professor of Architecture at Glasgow University and head of the Mackintosh School of Architecture from 1973 to 1994. While there he acted as the consultant architect at the newly built Charles Rennie Mackintosh building House for an Art Lover in Bellahouston Park. He died in Inverness on Saturday during a judges' tour of buildings nominated for the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS)'s Andrew Doolan awards.

There are many MacMillan-designed buildings on Scran, and you can see this great architect's legacy here
