The Gathering the Voices project holds contributions from the survivors of Nazi anti-Semitism and political persecution of World War Two, who sought sanctuary in Scotland. Contributors gave their testimonies generously despite describing experiences that were painful for them to recall. The project consists of audio recordings of two women, namely Gretl Shapiro and Marian Camrass, as well as their respective family photographs and ephemera.

[1126] Photographic Portraits of a Family 1873-1943
Images of a family, shown through photographic portraits, mostly formal, dating from the Victorian era to the 1940s. Invaluable for demonstrating changing fashions, changing styles of portraiture, and for a glimpse into some of the earliest examples of photography. This collection was kindly licensed to Scran by Prof. Cairns Aitken, an academic physician/psychiatrist in Rehabilitation Medicine, who became Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and retired as Vice-Principal at the University of Edinburgh in 1994. He was born in Dunoon, Argyll in 1933. He has had a life-long interest in photography, and in completing projects. He was awarded the CBE in 1998 for his contribution to the Health Services.

[1123] Further Images of Venice
Further images of Venice, the Italian city built on a lagoon and characterised by its canals, its many magnificent buildings and its gondolas. Included in this project are images of mosaics, artworks, Murano glassblowing, bridges and gondoliers.
