[0006] James Hutton: The Father of Modern Geology (multimedia essay)
A look at the life and work of James Hutton, who, with the publication of his "Theory of the Earth" in 1785, began the science of geology. The project also provides access to the "Lost Drawings" of John Clerk of Eldin. Recently rediscovered, these field drawings were commissioned by Hutton for his research. A virtual 3D landscape of Salisbury Crags in Edinburgh, which many of the drawings detail, has been created to set these in context.
