Here are over 7000 photos of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough in South Yorkshire and its inhabitants. The pictures were all made before 1945, and are part of a much bigger collection which is held by Rotherham Archives and Local Studies Service. Many more photos are available for you to see on the Viewfinder computers. These can be found at the Archives and Local Studies Reading Room in the Central Library in the town centre, at the Museum in Clifton Park, and in the community libraries in Dinnington, Kiveton Park, Maltby, Swinton, Thurcroft, and Wath. The Viewfinder project was funded by the HLF. [0959] The Scottish Parliament
On September 11th 1997, in a referendum, the people of Scotland voted for the creation of the first Scottish Parliament in almost 300 years. On 9 January 1998, Holyrood was announced as the home for the new Scottish Parliament. In July 1998, Enric Miralles in partnership with RMJM Ltd were declared the winners of the competition to find a designer of the new Parliament building. Construction on the Holyrood site began in April 1999 and the Scottish Parliament found a temporary home in the Assembly Hall of the Church of Scotland, set just off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. The Holyrood building was officially opened on the 9th of October 2004.

The objects in the Museum Collection come from the University and its predecessor institutions. These include electrical equipment from the Electrical Engineering School, household items from the School of Domestic Science and examples of pharmacist's bottles from the School of Pharmacy

[0956] Robert Gordon University Needlework Development Scheme Collection
This collection consists of embroidery and needlework items from the Needlework Development Scheme. The scheme, which began in 1934, was a collaboration between the four Scottish art colleges, funded anonymously by J & P Coats, with the aim of improving the standard of embroidery design and technique in Scotland. Examples of good practice were collected from Britain, Europe and elsewhere, including costume, domestic items, samplers etc. The scheme spread south over the border and contained over 3500 items when it closed in 1961. The University’s collection consists of 112 items.
