[0866] The Muriel Dawson Art Collection

Thumbnail for project: The Muriel Dawson Art Collection A selection of images from a large unpublished collection of the work of Muriel Helen Dawson [1897-1974]. The collection was bequeathed to the Natural History Museum by the artist. It consists of many sketchbooks and loose and bound folders containing pencil sketches, watercolours and works in crayon and chalk of mainly fauna and flora from the United Kingdom, specifically the Shetland Islands, with some from other parts of the UK and a few from the Irish Republic.

Brian Hope-Taylor (1923-2001) was a remarkable archaeologist who did much to raise the standards of excavation and archaeological illustration in Britain. He pioneered excavation techniques on timber buildings and was especially noted for his work on Anglo-Saxon and early medieval sites in Scotland and England.
