[0232] Photopolis: Living and Working in Dundee 1900-1925, Phase II
Phase II of this project. A wide-ranging photographic survey of a large Scottish city at the height of its industrial power, based on Dundee Central Library's collection of photographs by Alexander Wilson. The records depict both living and working conditions, and a wealth of human history which ranges from opulence to poverty and deprivation. See also Project 164.

This project shows how the former ironworks at Dunaskin in Ayrshire illustrates the evolution of community and industry from the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution. Now a museum, it portrays life and landscape prior to the ironworks, the resultant impact on environment and population, industrial changes from iron to coal and brick, and finally the new industry: tourism.
