He was born in Dunoon, Argyll in 1933. He has had a life-long interest in photography, and in completing projects. He was awarded the CBE in 1998 for his contribution to the Health Services.

Wilhelmina Barns-Graham CBE was born in St. Andrew's in Fife in 1912.  After graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 1937, she moved to St. Ives in Cornwall where she became a member of the St. Ives Society of Artists, alongside Barbara Hepworth, Naum Gabo, Ben Nicholson and others.  Many of her artworks were representational, though she was also renowned for her abstract works.  

The Barns-Graham Charitable Trust, established after her death in 2004, have kindly licensed copies of some of her works, as well as sketches, and photographs of the artist, to Scran.
