This animation shows the construction of the Forth Rail Bridge in diagramatic form. First, the caissons are towed into place and sunk. Then the three towers are built. Finally the cantilevers are constructed and the link girders are added to enable the railway track to be laid.

The animation is the second of three animations that show the Firth of Forth before the construction of the Forth Rail Bridge, the construction of the Forth Rail Bridge and, finally, the Bridge in use.

The animation was produced for a multimedia programme on the history of the Forth Rail Bridge which was produced for use in the Museum of Scotland in 1998.
