Bush Television

 of 3

Early 1950s black and white television with the full name of Bush Radio Television Receiver Type Tug 34.

The television is housed in a wooden cabinet on castors with two doors. Inside the doors are the screen, loudspeaker, on/off-volume control and brightness control knobs. On the back are controls for focus, width, height, horizontal, vertical, tuning, contrast and picture interference.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), first started high-definition transmissions in 1936 but the service was suspended in 1939. The broadcast of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953 found many households buying their first televisions.
